Pita Bread, Bocconcini Cheese and Jalepeno Sandwich
Ok we got it right later but I am going to put up this photo of our first attempt at pita bread turned into a sandwich but actually the pita bread itself did not puff up properly as it should to create a pocket in the middle. I realised that it was for 2 reasons. We used white flour instead of whole wheat and the oven temperature was not high enough. Anyway the sandwich looks good and tasted too with bocconcini cheese, tomatoes and jalepenos (grown here too). Got it right later with whole wheat flour and 250 deg C temp.

Classic French Bread, Baguette made at Acres Wild Cheesemaking Farmstay, Coonoor, India
Attempted to make baguette today. Made a mistake in the recipe but end result was pretty ok. Crust came out the way it should. Later in the evening Tina decided to pull out the bocconcini cheese she had made a few days back and so it was a humble farmers dinner 🙂 of mixed vegetable soup with bocconcini, tomato and pepper toasted in the oven on slices of baguette. Sorry don’t have photos of that but soon once I get this bread done better.

Mushroom and Parmesan Quiche
Here is my first Quiche that we made along with the bread yesterday. Heck I did not even know what that was before this 🙂 But it came out really well. Yes it is mainly mushrooms and some of our grated parmesan in the filling. The first attempt got stuck to the bowl as we did not butter the inside of the bowl. This one popped out fine. Don’t miss the touch of fennel sprig on the top 🙂

Postcard from Aditi Deo who stayed with us.
Aditi and Suhas Deo stayed with us a while back. They drove up here from Poona and Aditi has sent us this hand-drawn map on a postcard of their trip from Poona to Acres Wild Farm and back. Very fine artwork here. Not sure if this scanned image is going to do justice to it but here it is. Thanks Aditi.

Did my first proper Peak Oil lecture at an IT software park in Chennai called Ascendas. Was invited by a company called Ecologin run by Sridhar Lakshmanan that organises eco camp trips. Meant to be a 60 minute session for which I prepared a Powerpoint presentation. I ran overtime a bit 😉 Gave me a lot of insight into how I can polish up my act for future lectures.
Below is a photo of the hall setting.

Aamir and Kiran consider alternative professions once Peak Oil sets in.
It has been 6 years since Aamir and Kiran visited us in Coonoor. The last time incidentally was when I had found this land but did not bring him here or the price would have gone up 🙂 So it was a pleasant surprise for them to see how Acres Wild has shaped up. Here are some photos of a Cheesemaking Demo for them.
Heck! I still prefer Amul Cheese!
Acres Wild got featured in the April- May 2011 issue of Conde Nast Traveller. Check the article on us under the section ‘Nilgiri Calling’.
Well being bucolic folk and all obviously we had never heard of Conde Nast Traveller. Could hardly pronounce it actually :-). But now we carry the issue around Coonoor Club and especially where other ‘Modern’ folk hangout. What wine goes with smoked salmon you ask? Heck will have to check with my friends up on Grey’s Hill 🙂
