The American Empire Is Bankrupt

Posted by: admin   in Economic Collapse, Peak Oil

Dmitry’s new article “Definancialisation, Deglobalisation, and Relocalisation” is a must read for those interested in how to communicate the order of things to others who are less interested……….. at least for now.   Dmitry Orlov also he has the practical experience of the Soviet collapse to draw from.

Here is an excerpt…..

The American Empire Is Bankrupt

“This week marks the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency.  It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political decline in the United States. And it signals the last gasp of the American imperium. That’s over. It is not coming back. And what is to come will be very, very painful.

Barack Obama, and the criminal class on Wall Street, aided by a corporate media that continues to peddle fatuous gossip and trash talk as news while we endure the greatest economic crisis in our history, may have fooled us, but the rest of the world knows we are bankrupt. And these nations are damned if they are going to continue to prop up an inflated dollar and sustain the massive federal budget deficits, swollen to over $2 trillion, which fund America’s imperial expansion in Eurasia and our system of casino capitalism. They have us by the throat. They are about to squeeze.

There are meetings being held Monday and Tuesday in Yekaterinburg, Russia, (formerly Sverdlovsk) among Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and other top officials of the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The United States, which asked to attend, was denied admittance. Watch what happens there carefully. The gathering is, in the words of economist Michael Hudson, “the most important meeting of the 21st century so far.”

Posted by: admin   in Ponds & Fish

The fish have grown to a fair size – about palm length. I tried getting some photos by throwing some dry cow food in the pond (seen in photo floating all around).   Here are some shots.

Haloumi Cheese Experiment

   Posted by: admin   in Cheese

Tina made some Haloumi the other day and that was the first time I had heard of that cheese.  Now it has been a few days with it curing in brine and I tried it plain.  Very interesting.  Now to check out some recipes.

Vanashree – A real working eco-farm

Posted by: admin   in Agriculture, Sustainability

We have been in touch with Priti and Srikanth who have been persevering at their farm, Vanashree, near Bangalore, to shape it as a true sustainable farm.  Here I am posting an article An eco-sustainable way of life’ from the Deccan Herald that shows just how much they have achieved.  Tina and I are looking forward to visiting them soon to see it first hand and learn from their plain and honest efforts.

You can also check out all the other stuff from the Vanashree website.

Pablo gets his Drums

Posted by: admin   in Family and Personal

Pablo suddenly showed a wild passion for taking up drums seriously and so we did some reasearch on the internet and found a suitable set made by Dixon for beginners.  I must say it is a very good buy for Rs 20,000/-.  I remember the time when I was mad about drums.  I had a basic kit that was used in one of our film shoots but the rest, like additonal cymbals and skins, I had to lug from abroad at great cost.

Paul Krugman's verdict on Obama's plans

Posted by: admin   in Economic Collapse

Now when an old dropout like me and other aging peakniks say it, it is our fading genes talking………….. BUT when Paul Krugman says it…………. then even I post it on my blog 😉   Because for all my admiration and support for Obama till he became president I had reservations.  I was waiting in a funny state hoping against hope that he would be daring to do what really needed to be done.  But knowing that the game is too well rigged to allow even a president with such promise, to play it differently, I suspected that it would be otherwise.  Sad to say but that is what is emerging as Obama’s tack.  Read the rest from the expert nobel prize winning economist.  The Market Wizards Were Exposed as Frauds — Too Bad Obama’s Team Still Believes in Their Magic

Galloping with Blinkers On

Posted by: admin   in Alternative Energy, Peak Oil

I love the way The Archdruid puts it in this article on what is REALLY needed at the advent of Peak Oil….. of course it depends on

a.) Whether you know what Peak Oil is all about.

b.) Whether you are of the paradigm that recognizes growth as the pitfall of the industrial and cheap energy era.

c.) Whether you are fundamentally an optimist or a realist (often confused as a doomer or a peaknik).

Anyway so basically The Archdruid points to two possible lines of solutions needed to face Peak Oil realistically (sorry you optimists but sometimes a realistic approach is better because as Matt Savinar puts it really well on the caption on his website – “Deal with reality before reality deals with you!!!!”   No place for white collared optimism there. 😉

Enough of this rant.  Read the article Galloping with Blinkers for the real story.

Creating Paradise – Intro to Permaculture

   Posted by: admin   in Sustainability

Many times I wonder whether we are going in the right direction at Acres Wild or is it just in our minds that we are going to be sustainable or any better than anyone else in the days to come.  Well this article puts some of those worries in perspective.  One should not imagine that one can be ‘sustainable’ so easily and so soon but still the effort to move our farm to a rainforest model is the right guide.  Easier said but a worthy goal.

A smooth little article ‘Creating Paradise’ on permaculture at an excellent sustainability site called Transition Culture.
