Looking for Major Carp fingerlings.

Posted by: admin   in Ponds & Fish

We have been hunting for fingerlings of major carps like Catla and Rohu that can populate the mid and upper parts of the pond. Nothing available here in Nilgiris but the people at the Bhavani Sagar dam in the plains near Mettapalayam have promised that by April they should be able to give us some.

The other big task is getting them from there to here. The whole journey is over 5 hours and that is tricky.

hai it should work if u guys fill up the bags with enough oxygen when u transport the fish…. my uncle sent me a whole aquarium that way once when i was a kid from chennai in a car except of for a few casualties most of the fish survived so u should be good……

Thanks Pradeep,
Actually this is an older post. Later we managed to get them safely up here from Bhavani Sagar dam down in the plains. They were brought up in normal plastic bags and they survived though they were 500 to a packet. I think because they were really small fries. Earlier we had tried bringing much larger ones in buckets etc and quite a few had died due to lack of oxygen in the water.
