Holi in the Narmada Valley - 2008 - An amazing all night celebration of dancing and music to traditional instruments but one has to experience it to believe the difference in the way the people in the valley celebrate holi from the rest of the country. No crackers or loud sounds except the drums and the rhythm. Check out the photos which are in chronology. Do read the captions below the photos to get some idea on what is happening. And if you are really interested, take a trip to the valley at Holi time and participate.
Kota Village Visit - Aug 2008 - Our friends Richard and Amy Wolf invite us to spend a day at a Kota Village called Kolmel. Richard has worked extensively studying the Kota history, traditions, customs, life-style and village life. He has published a book called 'The Black Cow's Footprint' which is about the same.
Tribal Function - Aug 2008 - Our friend Mr Samraj from Keystone Foundation in Kotagiri invited us to participate in a function where various local tribes were meeting to discuss current issues, problems and to display their culture thru dance. It was wonderful though I did not understand a word of all the passionate speeches.
