It is an approximately 2 hour guided tour of our farm that highlights our attempts at shaping a self-sustaining environment - developing pond ecosystems, making adobe bricks, gobar gas plants and rearing our farm animals and birds in a gentle free range fashion. And most important - a quick peep into our cheesemaking process along with cheese tasting. We request a nominal charge: Rs 100/- per person above 10 years of age. Rs 50/- per person 5 to 10 years. Below 5 years is free. This goes towards planting more trees on our farm. |

Day Visits FAQ
Where is the farm located?
Surprise! We are within Coonoor town limits and only 3 km from the bus stand. That is closer than most hotels and other sites of interest in and around Coonoor town.
What can we expect from the farm visit? We are trying to shape an organic and sustainable life style.
We start with a walk down to the pond where you can see the ducks, geese, goats and fish. You can feed them and interact with them.
Next we walk up past the vegetable patches.
Next we see the cows in the cow shed that is made with adobe bricks made on the farm.
Next is the gobar gas plant and we will explain how it works and how we are using the gas for all our cheesemaking and farmhouse needs. You can see the slurry tank and how it is used as an excellent fertiliser for our fields.
You can see how we make adobe mud bricks that are sun-dried. Mud used is all from our farm.
Nearby is the composting, vermiculture and azolla pits. These help in keeping our farm organic and sustainable.
We will show you how we are rain water harvesting water from several structures in the farm into a huge 35,000 lt water tank.
What about Cheesemaking at Acres WIld
Yes we make Gourmet Cheese and that is the final part of our tour. We will take you through our cheesemaking process but it is not a factory so please don’t expect huge machines and impressive looking gadgets…. You can sample at least one of our cheeses (depending on availability) and we hope that you will buy some from our local outlet in Bedford in Coonoor. We do not sell cheese from the farm.
How do we fix a farm visit.
Please call me, Mansoor at (94432-32621) or email (acreswildfarm@gmail.com) in advance to fix a suitable date and time for a day visit to our farm. Farm visits are only possible if Tina or I can be personally present.
Come to Coonoor Bus Stand which is located near the main market in lower Coonoor.
Go past Bus Stand on Barlows road that goes to the Taj Hotel. About 100m after the bus stand there is a fork in the road on the right with a sign 'Kanni Mariamman Kovil Street'. Go down that right fork.
Follow the road for about a kilometer (past a temple and a small bridge) till you come to a 3-pronged fork in the road and take the extreme left fork. There is small yellow sign board there that says 'Acres Wild Farm'.
Keep following that road till you see another yellow signboard that says 'Acres Wild Farm' and turn right there.
You are in Acres Wild Farm now ..............!
